There is a very specific bonus that comes from the multitude of things you have to combine and master when you have children, a household, a job and/or other additional duties to attend to. The factor “children” cannot be replaced by any other task with the claim “that’s pretty much the same”. It is not.

Mothers and and fathers constantly rearrange their order of priorities to cater simultaneously for economic, anatomic, logistic, educational and deeply human needs. This gives them nimble minds and fast reaction far superior to others who lack this intensive training!  A study published by the International Journal of Knowledge and Learning in April 2009 (see link above) has interesting findings on this issue.
